For the sixth edition of the Radiohead Jazz Project, we were on our own - Idioteque, our usual partner in crime, was not able to join us - so we did something special. In the first set, we featured a variety of the Radiohead tunes we had played before. For our second set, we performed Radiohead's seminal album OK Computer, in its entirety - all twelve songs, in order, arranged for big band by Christian Overton, Chris Hunt, Josh Grossman, Brad Cheeseman, Chelsea McBride, Shirantha Beddage, Ewan Divitt and Kyle Brenders. Alex Samaras joined us on vocals for the OK Computer set. Find out more...
Although performing Canadian big band repertoire is a regular part of our mandate, once a year we exclusively perform compositions by Canadians - and we get to show off the immense talent which exists in Canadian big band composers. Music from across the country including works chosen from our Call for Scores by Chelsea McBride, Brad Cheeseman, Taylor Donaldson, Greg Bush, Ted Blackbourn and Jonathan Tromsness. O Canada is always a greate celebration of Canadian music. For more information, see the poster.
We always have a blast when we team up with Swing Toronto for a swing dance, and this show was no exception - great music, great fun and lots of dancing in a friendly environment. See the poster.
The fifth edition! We once again presented two sets of Radiohead music arranged for big band, then turned the stage over to Idioteque, Toronto's best Radioehead tribute band. Another great night, another full house. See the poster.

It was nice to be back in a familiar spot - a Saturday matinee at The Rex. We featured some of the music we've been playing in other places over the past 9 months or so - our tribute to Phil Nimmons at the 2013 TD Toronto Jazz Festival; our show with Christine Jensen in November; and our recent Big Band Gospel Project. See the poster.

The Toronto Jazz Orchestra with
The Toronto Mass Choir
Dr. J.M. Ennis Auditorium, Welland
Presented by the
Welland-Port Colborne Concert Association
The culmination of several years worth of planning and discussion, this concert featured the big band sound of the Toronto Jazz Orchestra and the gospel powerhouse Toronto Mass Choir. In what we hope is the first of several collaborative concerts with the TJO and TMC, each ensemble performed a few tunes alone, then the ensembles got together - all 60 musicians or so - to perform six brand new arrangements, created specifically for this project by local bassist and arranger extraordinaire Shelly Berger. For more information, visit the Welland-Port Colborne Concert Assocation website.
